The other day I found myself admiring the beauty of the seasons changing. As I looked around, I saw the bare trees indicating the end of one thing and the beginning of the next. I felt the cold air and noticed how God’s glory is beheld in the wind. I gazed at what looks like death but is indeed life just going through a process. All of a sudden, I realized I was enjoying the thing that I had not always liked. There was a time when I wasn’t really looking forward to winter. After taking it all in, I recognized that I could enjoy the season more because I was prepared. In addition to what I normally wear, I had on a sweater and a heavy coat. With these extra pieces, I was unbothered by the cold and could focus on the beauty of things.
I thought about how this relates to us in the spirit. There are many seasons in our life and they can be more enjoyable if we are prepared/equipped. Being prepared and equipped does not mean we always know what to do but instead it means that we are connected to The One who ALWAYS knows what to do.
Psalm 32:8 I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will guide thee with mine eye.
How do the trees handle the cold, the snow, and the lack of sunlight ever year? How does the grass still come back to it’s green color after months of frost and cold? Both are prepared and equipped for the climate/season by staying connected to the earth through its roots. They can “weather the storm” and so can we by staying connected to God through Jesus Christ.
John 15:1,4-5 1) I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman. […] 4) Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me. 5) I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.
It is important to stay connected to the source. During the winter the trees don’t detach themselves from their roots and say I’m going somewhere warm. The tree stays connected to its roots in the ground where their nutrition comes from. It would die if it was disconnected from its source of nutrition. So we have to do the same to survive whatever season comes our way. Stay connected to the true vine!
Let’s enjoy this upcoming season naturally and spiritually. Just as we change out our drawers and closets to exchange our clothes for warm weather to clothes that keep us warm in the colder temperatures, let us do the same in the spirit. Allow the Holy Spirit to…Isaiah 61:3 To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, that he might be glorified. #TheExchange
Just as some pull the air conditioner out of the window, close the window, and put plastic over it to keep the heat in, let’s do the same in the spirit. Allow the Holy Spirit to pull us away from some things, close the door, and renew our minds…Romans 12:1-2 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
Lastly, just as many prepare to spend more time in the house…let’s prepare our minds and hearts to spend more time with God. That way we will be prepared in any situation, not because we know everything but because we have The All Knowing! James 4:8 Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.
I love y’all!! ❤
Can I say another thing???
No matter what…God is still God.
The picture above was taken when the temperatures first began to drop as I landed in Detroit Metropolitan Airport(DTW). I thought it was appropriate.
