I wonder if Adam bargained/pleaded with God about what he would give up/sacrifice if God would just let him stay…or was the feeling of guilt and shame so heavy he couldn’t even…or did it happen so fast that by the time he could form words he and his wife were already on the other side of the fence looking in helplessly…
My imagination wonders.
Obedience is better than sacrifice. Even if Adam had pleaded with God, obedience still would’ve been better. Are we still blessed through redemption by our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ? Yes. Could God’s people be blessed if obedience was Adam and Eve’s choice instead? Sure. But whatever the case, obedience is better than sacrifice.
It’s obvious that this is true when we look at the old testament. The law was given by God to show the people their sin/wrong doings, so for the remission of their sins a sacrifice had to be made/given. Sacrifices were made by the slaughtering of an animal and the blood shed was the remission.
Hebrews 9:22 And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission.
Ephesians 1:7 In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace;
But this act of sacrificing had to be done frequently…why? Because we weren’t obedient to the law time after time after time(and the perfect sacrifice had not yet come to take care of our constant disobedience…Jesus is His name :-)!!!!). Which would’ve been better? Being obedient and not having to sacrifice at all or being disobedient and having to sacrifice? Definitely not the latter.
1 Samuel 15:22 And Samuel said, Hath the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams.
My encouragement to me first and then to you is to be obedient today.
Obedient to the will of God, obedient to the nudge of the Holy Ghost(whew!), obedient to God’s everlasting Word….obedient. We can do it because He already did it.
God is so good, it’s too hard to grasp. Ttys 🙂
